Enjoy the slow pace and friendly nature of small-town Kootenay life on this 7-day relaxing tour to some of BC’s heritage towns and soothing hot springs. Situated in one of the most scenic areas in the world, the Kootenays offer refreshing mineral hot springs, eclectic towns and a view like no other. Visit Ainsworth and Fairmont Hot Springs, allow the healing waters to renew and rejuvenate you, discover the hidden gem of Nelson during a three-night stay and explore the character of the Kootenays with Sun Fun Tours.
Our journey begins today as we travel the short distance to Revelstoke. Enjoy a guided tour of the Revelstoke Dam that includes breathtaking views of the Columbia River Valley. Our overnight stay is at the historic and elegant Regent Hotel, one of the oldest family-owned and operated hotels in Canada and located right in the heart of the downtown core.
Following breakfast, our day begins at the Revelstoke Railway Museum. For train buffs and novices alike, this museum succeeds in sharing and inspiring a sense of wonder and excitement for our Canadian Pacific Railway. From here it’s a short ferry ride to Galena Bay and then onto Nakusp and New Denver where we will stop at the Nikkei Internment Memorial Centre and learn the dark history of the internment of thousands of Canadians of Japanese descent during WWII. Follow the picturesque route along Slocan Lake to Nelson for a three-night stay at the Prestige Lakeside Resort which is situated on the shores of Kootenay Lake and is within walking distance to downtown. (B)
Nelson is truly one of Canada’s hidden gems with an eclectic mix of old families, urban refugees, and a vibrant preserved downtown. This morning, we invite you to stroll the heritage area and Historic Baker Street which offers a tremendous number of unique retail shops, restaurants and coffee houses. Following lunch, we board Streetcar #23 for an entertaining and informative ride along the lake on a fully-restored electric tramway. (B)
Today, we travel to Kaslo, a historic silver-mining town. Tour the tree-lined streets and vintage buildings of the village and visit the S.S. Moyie, the last CPR sternwheeler to ply Kootenay Lake. In the afternoon, enjoy a visit to Ainsworth Hot Springs and experience the curative powers of the hot springs, in a horseshoe-shaped cave, where natural mineral waters emanate eternally. Return to Nelson for overnight. (B)
This morning we say goodbye to Nelson, traveling the picturesque route along the Kootenay Valley and through the fertile Creston Valley, where the main industry is fruit growing. We make our way north through Cranbrook and on to Fairmont Hot Springs Resort for two nights. (B)
A free day to enjoy the resort and Fairmont pools on your own. Leave your worries behind as you relax and experience the therapeutic warmth of the mineral spring waters. This evening, join us for a farewell dinner. (B, D)
