our commitment to you – COVID-19

We are thrilled to share the news that as of April 1, testing is no longer required to re-enter Canada.

Some measures are still in place. They include:

  • Must fill out the ArriveCan Info prior to returning to Canada
  • Must be fully vaccinated (2 doses) with proof
  • Wearing of masks is at passenger’s discretion but is not mandatory on our coaches.  There may be other places we visit on tour that it is mandatory so please be prepared to wear one where required
  • Seat rotation will now be reimplemented.
  • Must have a Federal Canadian Vaccine Passport to travel into the US as well as a BC Vaccine Passport (at least until April 8)

Important Traveller FAQs

Is a negative PCR test required and how much does it cost?
For trips that are in the US for 72 hours or less, a test is no longer required to return to Canada.  This is great news for our 4 Day tours down to Washington State.   Currently a negative PCR test is required for any travel outside of Canada longer than 72 hours.  The cost can range from $150 – $200 US and is borne by the traveller.  A special exception has been made for tours visiting the Coeur d’Alene Casino Resort, where testing will be facilitated onsite with the cost included in the tour price.

Do I need the ArriveCan app?
Yes. You’ll need to submit your information within 72 hours before your arrival back into Canada using the ArriveCan app.  The app should be downloaded and an account created in advance.

What if I don’t have a smart phone?
You can have someone else fill in the information on your behalf however, you will require a printed or emailed copy as well as the receipt within the above 72 hour period. In extreme circumstances, the Travel Director or Coach driver can facilitate ArriveCan forms. This must be arranged in advance and there may be a fee associated with this service.

Will the Canadian border do random testing?
Yes, however testing is not done at the border. Tests kits are given out at random to travellers who then are required to perform the test within 24 hours of returning home and submit the results.  Instructions are included with the kit and assistance through the health authority is provided if required.

What can Sun Fun Tours do to ensure travellers don’t get sick?
The decision to travel is personal.  Sun Fun Tours continues to follow all mandated health guidelines and has safety protocols and best practices in place while on tour. Some venues may have more relaxed protocols but we urge you to adhere to those as outlined by BC’s provincial health order.

What if there is a positive PCR test while in the US?
Travellers who are ill and having symptoms consistent with COVID-19 will not be permitted to rejoin the tour and will need to remain in self-isolation until they are evaluated by a medical professional. If their condition is deemed not contagious, they may rejoin the group or arrange to return home. Any costs associated with delay or quarantine will be borne by the traveller. We strongly suggest purchasing travel insurance that includes trip interruption and/or delay.  Refer to limits in your policy.

What if a traveller tests positive upon return to Canada?
If a traveller tests positive after returning home, they are required per the PHO to notify Sun Fun Tours who in turn will notify all passengers and any others who may have come into potential contact with the positive traveller.  For information regarding self-monitoring and testing please visit bccdc.ca.

Do I need the Federal Vaccine passport to go on a tour?
Starting Oct. 30, 2021, this proof of vaccination will be required when travelling in Canada by air, rail or cruise ship as well as internationally including the US. It is not required in BC but when travelling out of the province we recommend that you have a copy with you.

March 2021 Update

Grateful… Cliché or the Truth?

This past year has been one of reflection I’m sure for many of us.  I know for myself the one word that keeps resonating with me is Grateful, as cliché as that may sound.  Having spent the majority of my life (which now spans over 5 decades… but shhh – don’t tell) living and working in a family business alongside my parents, sister and brother in the tour, travel and  transportation industry, a sector in which we all know has been one of the hardest hit through this pandemic, I am grateful and here is why.  I am grateful to have been introduced at a very young age to the joys of travel and the incredible destinations I’ve visited and continue to seek out. I’m grateful of the knowledge, work ethic, values and commitment that my parents instilled and shared with their children to ensure we could not only carry on our second generation family business – Sun Fun Tours and Canada West Coachlines, but to also be able to go to work every day loving what we do.  I’m grateful that we had an opportunity four years ago to sell our company allowing my parents to retire after more than 40 years of hard work and dedication to their livelihood and I’m grateful that my sister and brother were able to take the skills they developed in our trade and incorporate them in their new occupations.  I’m grateful that our current ownership group is dedicated, supportive and committed to our company’s future, valued employees and faithful customers so that we can continue to make your travel dreams a reality when we can safely do so again soon.  I am grateful that my loyal and energetic Sun Fun co-workers have been able to use this past year to take time to enjoy the things that fulfill them including time with family, gardening, cooking and even welcoming new puppies into their homes.  I am grateful that these team members who so many of you have gotten to know and formed friendships with over the years can’t wait to get back to work to reconnect with you.  This is only a small sample of what I am grateful for (I could go on and on but don’t want to bore you) but most of all, I am grateful to all of you – our guests and our friends for your continued support, understanding, patience and flexibility through this unprecedented ride.   My team both on the front lines and those at home have been inspired and uplifted by the incredible outpouring of support and encouraging comments you’ve shared to help us bridge this gap.  The phones are ringing again, and people are excited to have something to look forward to even if it may still be a few months off.  With smaller groups and a high demand, I encourage you to book now for your next journey.  Give us a call – we can’t wait to talk to you.

Warmest regards,

Shelley Thiessen
Vice President

Good afternoon,

Following the extension to the Provincial Health Orders currently in effect for BC which include avoiding any non-essential travel, Sun Fun Tours has postponed our tour departures for at least the next four weeks. While frustrating for those of us looking forward to a change of scenery, we have all sacrificed so much for so long now, that we will continue to be a part of the solution and will be ready to roll as soon as we have been given the official clearance to resume travel by the Province.

Thank you so much for your understanding, patience and most of all loyalty.  All of us at Sun Fun Tours look forward to welcoming you back on board with bells and whistles as soon as it is safe to do so.

Sun Fun Tours

Dear friends,

Out with the old and in with the new has never rung so true for so many of us as we look forward with anticipation, hope and promise to a year of recovery, reconnecting and resilience.

None of us could have imagined the challenges that 2020 brought but as we turn the page on the calendar and roll over to 2021, we have an opportunity to appreciate the possibilities of what lay ahead; to remind ourselves of what we hold dear and that as we slowly begin to return to the things that we perhaps once took for granted, we now have a new appreciation of what truly matters.  Spending time with others, traveling, gathering together, hugging and holding our dear ones close – these are just a few of the things we can’t wait to do again. Every day we are seeing new developments and progress that fills us with hope that 2021 will be the year to do this.

At Sun Fun Tours, our passion and our mission has always been to create travel experiences for our travelers; to introduce them to unique experiences, dream destinations and opportunities that they may never have even considered.  A silver lining that has emerged from this crisis is our refocus on places that are close to home; where you can feel safe and confident.  We are optimistic that 2021 can be a great year for travel and we can’t wait to share with you a slate of incredible new journeys throughout our beautiful province. Some places you may have already visited while others you may have never even heard of.  Either way, this will be the time to rediscover the beauty that lies in our own backyard, allowing for wonderful new experiences and everlasting memories.  Our commitment to the health and safety of our travelers and our staff is unwavering and our Travel with Confidence protocols remain in place. Click here to view.

You can learn more about our 2021 destinations by visiting our website at sunfuntours.ca And please check back often as we continue to add new destinations.

On behalf of the entire Sun Fun Tours team, we want to express our gratitude for your continued support and say how honored we are that you choose us as your vacation provider.  When you are ready to travel again, we will be here to welcome you aboard.

Happy New Year – Welcome to 2021

Dear friends,

It’s hard to believe that September is just around the corner and with it, the beginning of the fall season.  Was it really only just March when travel as we knew it came to a screeching halt?  These past few months have certainly offered up challenges to almost all of us, and in particular to those in the travel business, but we are an industry that is known for its resiliency and adaptability.  We have spent the time since March actively cancelling, rescheduling and re-working our business model to ensure that when you are ready to begin traveling again, that you can feel confident in doing so with Sun Fun Tours.

With our ‘Travel with Confidence’ Protocols in place, we are excited to head back out on the road September 7 with a group of eager travelers to explore the Kootenays.  Other destinations this fall include the Rockies and Edmonton, Vancouver Island as well as a beach stay retreat in Parksville.  While the border continues to be closed, all tours to US destinations remain on hold.  If you are booked on one of these, we will be reaching out to you shortly to offer you an alternative.  Soon we will have our Christmas tours available for booking as well as other offerings into 2021.

“It’s about new experiences, new destinations, revisiting familiar favorites, and now, includes new protocols that are designed to let you Travel with Confidence.”

One of the best parts of traveling is the planning and the anticipation.  Although traveling with Sun Fun will look different than before, our mission has not changed. We will inspire relaxation, fun, camaraderie and create experiences and memories to hold dear.

Thank you from all of us at Sun Fun Tours.  We miss you and look forward to welcoming you back onboard.  We are here and are ready when you are.

Sun Fun Tours

Dear friends.

First and foremost, all of us at Sun Fun Tours send you our well wishes and hope you are in good spirits.  Our offices remain closed at this time to the public, however our team regularly meets up online for virtual visits and updates. And as always we are available to you by phone or email. If we miss your call, please leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

The past few months have been challenging, but we’ve been inspired by the incredible outpouring of support from our guests who have shared many thoughtful and encouraging comments.  This makes us excited and positive for a bright future when we are all ready to get back on the road again. So as our province moves closer to the next phases, and British Columbians are encouraged to travel locally and throughout the province, we are working with our industry partners including hoteliers, attractions, restaurants and transportation in preparation for a re-opening that includes conducting business in a new environment with the safety and precautions in place meant to offer our guests peace of mind.

When you are ready to resume travel you can expect things to be different than before but as travelers you are used to adapting, and know and appreciate that this is what has always made travel exciting. It’s about new experiences, new destinations, revisiting familiar favorites, and now it will include new protocols that are designed to let you Travel with Confidence. More information will soon be available on this new program.

We’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Sun Fun has remained focused on ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all and when the time comes to welcome you back onboard, we do so with your comfort and confidence as our top priority.

Thank you on behalf of our entire Sun Fun Tours family for your continued support and loyalty.  We look forward to seeing you again soon. Until then, stay safe and healthy.
