The 22nd annual Fraser Valley Bald Eagle Festival celebrates the season of eagles and salmon with up close and personal viewing opportunities at the largest gathering of eagles in North America. Thousands of these raptors gather to feast on the salmon in the unfrozen waters of the Fraser and Harrison Rivers. Combine this amazing natural wonder with the luxury of Harrison Hot Springs Resort, and you have a perfect fall tour.
Depart for the Fraser Valley, arriving early afternoon. Our destination is Harrison Mills, site of the largest gathering of bald eagles in North America. The Fraser Valley Bald Eagle Festival was founded to celebrate the incredible biodiversity and beauty of the area by honouring the majestic bird and the cycle of the salmon that feeds it. Each year the eagles return to this feeding ground as the winters freeze out habitat in other parts of Canada. Bird counts in excess of 7000 have occurred in past years! A group of dedicated volunteers help educate and manage the many visitors to the area, conserving and protecting habitat such as Chehalis Flats. Today visit one of the prime viewing areas, Tapadera Estates, and maybe meet the teaching eagle from OWL. Next stop is the Inch Creek Hatchery to see the prehistoric sturgeons that they have on site, followed by the Exhibitor’s Fair at Leq’a:mel for fascinating educational and environmental displays, the work of local artists and crafts people, and tasty local food. After a day outdoors, the hot pools at Harrison Hot Springs Resort will be a welcome relief. Check in for your two-night stay, then join the group for an evening of dining and dancing in the renowned Copper Room. (D)
There is no better way to see the eagle than from the water. Today we cruise Fraser and Harrison Rivers with Fraser River Safari, who take us to the best sites for wildlife viewing.
