This morning explore Old Sacramento, the historic waterfront district, and the California State Railroad Museum. Head south through the ‘breadbasket of America”, the Central Valley, to Yosemite View Lodge, situated on the scenic Merced River. (B)
The day is devoted to exploring the natural splendors of Yosemite National Park where glaciers have carved the incredible canyon of Yosemite Valley along the Merced River. The park contains a dozen waterfalls that rank among the world’s highest. Look for climbers on the 3,000 foot high face of El Capitan, feel the spray off Bridal Veil Falls, and snap a photo at the classic view of Yosemite Valley from Wawona Tunnel. Now you’ll understand why this is one of the most visited parks in the world.
Continue south to Fresno in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley, and tour the Kearney Mansion Museum, an unusual French Renaissance style home. Enjoy a traditional family-style Basque lunch. Check into the Holiday Inn Express for overnight. (L)
Heading to the Pacific Ocean, join the incredibly scenic Highway 1 north as we make our way to Hearst Castle, once the fabulous home of newspaper baron William Randolph Hearst. The drive, designated an All-American road, is nothing short of spectacular as you follow the rugged California coastline through Big Sur and into the coastal community of Monterey. Our home for the next two nights is the Mariposa Inn and Suites. (B)

A short drive takes us to the city where many have ‘left their hearts’ – San Francisco.
